Why I'm Running

My name is Mary DeLai and I am excited at the opportunity to serve as Newburyport's next Ward 6 Councillor. I'm running because I care deeply about our city, our ward, and our neighborhoods, and I believe in the people who call Newburyport home.

I believe we deserve leadership that listens, acts, and delivers. Leadership that doesn't just promise change, but creates it. We need engaged and experienced leadership.

I am a career public servant, not a politician. I know the challenges we face because I have experienced them before. I've successfully navigated the difficult task of balancing limited resources with growing needs. These are times when compromise, collaboration, and communication are critical.

Our city will confront significant challenges in the years ahead - fiscal constraints, development pressures, climate change, and affordable housing chief among them. I have the professional experience, knowledge, and skills necessary to address these challenges. There is no more important time to have experienced and engaged experts leading our city.

Together, we can ensure our city works for everyone, including the West End. My mission is to elevate the voices of Ward 6 by proactively seeking your input and prioritizing regular communication and engagement with our residents.  I promise to listen first, to speak up for what's right, and to show up to represent you.

So I'm asking for your vote, your trust, and your partnership. I promise to communicate with you and for you. I will work hard to understand your concerns and represent the interests of Ward 6. Let's continue to make Ward 6 a wonderful place to live and let's make this city better together.
